Fire Prevention and Preplans
The Palo Fire Department recognizes that building preplans and fire prevention are the number one way to prevent structure fires and accidents within the community. Preplans are available to all residences and businesses within the community. A preplan may help to recognize hazards located within your building prior to an incident occurring.
Preplans are simply walkthroughs of the structure with a firefighter or fire officer. A preplan can be conducted at anytime of the day, but are most commonly done during business hours. Preplans are not a way of fining or ticketing residences or businesses within the community. A preplan will also give the fire department a resource and idea of what to find within the structure including hazards that may pose special risks to firefighters or citizens inside.
Smoke detectors should be tested monthly and have the batteries changed twice annually. Smoke detectors should be placed on the ceiling at the highest point or on walls within a few inches of the ceiling.
Carbon monoxide detectors should be placed near the floor as it is heavier than air and will sink to the lowest point.
