History
The Palo Fire Department was first organized in January of 1961 and was later established as Palo Fire District #6 in 1966. In 2020 the Palo Fire Department responded to over 100 calls which varied from structural fires, field fires, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, medical assists, and mutual aid in the surrounding areas.
Palo Firefighters exceed all State of Iowa requirements for Firefighter qualifications.
The Minimum Training Standard, as adopted in the Iowa Administrative Code (Section 661, Chapter 251), requires any member of a fire department to complete the training requirements for Firefighter I classification.
All Palo firefighters are required to complete the training requirements for Firefighter I and Firefighter II. These classifications are statewide certifications.
